We checked Continue reading Kumarakom Cochin local sightseeing  We saw the echo point, Mattupetty dam, halted for some time at the Kundala lake which we liked the most and children enjoyed a lot. Kundala Lake is located at 28 km away from Munnar amidst a dense forest. A narrow road bifurcates to the left to reach this place. The main road on the top of the dam offers a panoramic view of the catchment area of the Kundala Dam. Kundala lake and its surrounding area offer a calm and quiet atmosphere with quiet natural beauty. Huge oak trees around the lake were magnificent. There was level area around the lake bank for children to play. Several boats were parked there but at that moment boating has yet not started. The distance was about 100-120 Kilometers and being a hill area the tentative travel time was 4-5 hours. After about an hours journey we passed through a major town of Kerala called Kottayam the rubber city. Kerala accounts for 90% of the Rubber production in India, major part being the contribution of Kottayam district. A houseboat usually have one or two bath attached air conditioned bed rooms, an open lounge, deck kitchenette and a crew comprising oarsmen, a cook and a guide. The houseboat that we reserved for the cruise had the above amenities. There are even four and five bed room houseboats. This was our maiden trip to Kerala and we have not visited this state before. After searching the best options on the internet we planned a 4N / 5D trip to Kerala.
