Rajdhani Express Trains in India

Rajdhani Express trains as the name suggests are elite long distance trains, which connect Indian capital New Delhi (Rajdhani) with important cities and state capitals of India having overnight journey. Rajdhani trains are one amongst the fastest train services in India. These high-speed express trains travel at a speed between 80 to 140 Kms per hour.

The Indian Railways introduced these express trains in the year 1969, to provide fast and comfortable means to transport between New Delhi and other distant cities in India. The first Rajdhani Express train was introduced between New Delhi and Howrah stations. The train covered a distance of 1,445 km in 17 hours 20 minutes.

Standard Facilities in Rajdhani Express trains

Rajdhani are fully air-conditioned trains having very less commercial and technical halts in between source and destination stations so as to reduce the travel time to a minimum.

For added comfort quality meals and snacks are provided on board the trains and the cost of meals and snacks served in the train is included in the train ticket. As per the timings of the train, the travelers are served with morning tea, breakfast, lunch, snacks and dinner. Bottled drinking water is provided in addition to this

110 V AC power points are provided for connecting laptops and charging mobile phones during the journey

Being premier luxury trains the fare of these trains is higher than the equivalent AC coaches in other super fast trains.

Train Coaches

Most Rajdhani trains have three classes of accommodation, AC first class, AC second Class / AC two tier and AC three tier. The AC first Class has two or four berth coups, the Second Class AC sleeper coaches have curtains for privacy whereas AC three tier coached introduced a few years back to reduce ticket cost has open system of berths without curtains. Some Rajdhani trains have AC chair cars also which are being phased out

1. Neat and clean pillow two white bed sheets, blanket and hand towel.
2. Wet facial tissue / hot towel roll on train boarding

6. Increased level of security with no extra passengers / hawkers etc.

Above all priority is given to Rajdhani trains over others in case of delay line clearance issues.

As of now, Indian Railways has 21 pairs of Rajdhani Express trains. There are many cities that are served by more than one Rajdhani Express train like Kanpur Mughal Sarai, Bhopal and Surat.
